Stefanie Surdyka is a research scientist at the Materials Discovery Research Institute, supporting work in the accelerated methodologies and eco-remediation groups by operating the automated experimental platforms for high-throughput synthesis and assisting in the development of porous materials to address global sustainability and safety challenges.
Surdyka was previously an undergraduate researcher for the Ecological and Environmental Engineering department at Purdue University. Her work focused on developing a mathematical model that would predict the chemical fate following the Norfolk Southern train derailment in East Palestine, Ohio. She also contributed to the survey analysis of volatile organic compounds detected by at-home drinking water screening tests offered to those affected by the 2023 Maui wildfires.
Surdyka holds a B.S. in chemical engineering from Purdue University.
