Jorge Gonzalez, Ph.D. is the director of research for the Materials Discovery Research Institute at UL Research Institutes, where he leads programs advancing the understanding and application of atomic, nanoscale, and mesoscale materials. In his role, Gonzalez helps guide scientific strategy and oversees research initiatives that drive innovation in materials science, all with the goal of reducing health and safety risks while supporting resilience and sustainability in an evolving world.‍

Gonzalez has previously led multidisciplinary teams of scientists and engineers in high profile research and development projects in industrial and academic settings. Key responsibilities include overseeing projects with a focus on materials chemistry, catalysis, and separations. He was the plant head manager for Tatech, and he was a professor in the Faculty of Chemical Sciences at the University of Colima.

Gonzalez holds a Ph.D. from the University of St. Andrews and completed postdoctoral research at the Instituto de Tecnologia Quimica.
