Isik Su Buyuker, Ph.D. is a research scientist in the eco-remediation group at the Materials Discovery Research Institute, where she applies advanced synthesis and characterization methodologies to develop novel porous materials for applications in gas storage, energy, and environmental sustainability.
Buyuker has a strong background in materials synthesis, advanced characterization, and electrochemistry. She earned her Ph.D. degree from the State University of New York at Binghamton, where her research focused on the synthesis and characterization of novel cathode materials for sodium-ion and lithium-ion batteries, as well as operando microcalorimetry studies on the thermal stability of lithium-metal cells. Following her Ph.D., she joined Argonne National Laboratory as a postdoctoral researcher, where she applied process scale-up research and development methodologies to advance the technology readiness levels of next-generation battery cathode materials. She joined the Materials Discovery team in 2025.
Buyuker holds a B.S. in chemistry and Ph.D. in materials science from the State University of New York at Binghamton.
