Danielle Hutchison, Ph.D.

Danielle Hutchison, Ph.D. is a research scientist in the accelerated methodologies group at the Materials Discovery Research Institute. She manages and maintains the automation lab, which currently houses three robotic synthesis platforms. She designs, optimizes, and carries out automated workflows under various chemical conditions to enable the accelerated discovery of new materials.

Hutchison has a diverse background with experience in multiple aspects of chemistry. As a graduate student, she focused on the synthesis and solution characterization of metal-oxo clusters. She then went on to become a postdoctoral researcher at the University of Notre Dame, where she worked on high-pressure X-ray crystallography of uranium compounds. From there, Hutchison pursued a second postdoctoral research position at Argonne National Laboratory, which allowed her to continue working with actinide materials and focus on the synthesis and solid-state characterization of new uranium and neptunium materials. She joined the Materials Discovery team in January 2024.

Hutchison holds a B.S. in chemistry from St. John Fisher University and a Ph.D. in inorganic chemistry from Oregon State University.
