Yi Xie, Ph.D. is a research scientist in the accelerated methodologies group at the Materials Discovery Research Institute. He specializes in the synthesis and development of porous materials to address water remediation challenges.
Prior to joining the Materials Discovery team, Xie was an International Institute of Nanotechnology (IIN) postdoctoral fellow. He worked on DNA synthesis and DNA nanotechnology-guided crystallization of superlattice comprising optically active nanoparticles and light-harvesting molecules. He also worked on high-throughput DFT calculations and machine learning for new catalytic active organometallic compound discovery.
Xie earned his Ph.D. in chemistry from the University of Texas at San Antonio, where his research focused on the design and synthesis of crystalline porous materials for critical gas adsorption and molecular separations, including CO2 capture, water harvesting and hydrocarbon purification. During his doctoral studies, he received the Outstanding Ph.D. Dissertation Award and the Chinese Government Award for Outstanding Self-Financed Students Abroad.
Xie has contributed to multiple high-impact publications in journals such as Nature, Nature Chemical Engineering, Angewandte Chemie, Journal of the American Chemical Society, and Advanced Materials.
Xie holds a B.S. in applied chemistry from Sun Yat-Sen University and a Ph.D. in chemistry from the University of Texas at San Antonio.
