Gaurav M. Iyer, Ph.D. is a process engineer in the gas adsorption lab at the Materials Discovery Research Institute, working on operation, maintenance, safety and optimization of high-throughput gas adsorption instrumentation for characterizing porous materials such as MOFs, zeolites, and functionalized polymers. Iyer’s work on developing protocols for safe, reliable, and reproducible surface area, porosity, and adsorption measurements; designing workflows for rapid adsorbent screening; and interpretation of structure-performance relationships in porous materials will significantly contribute to the development of advanced materials for gas storage, separation, and capture applications.
Iyer has a strong background in development, characterization, and testing of advanced, scalable membranes and adsorbents materials for addressing challenging gas separation applications. His Ph.D. research focused on developing novel carbon molecular sieve hollow fiber membranes for hydrogen purification and carbon dioxide capture. As a postdoctoral researcher, he worked on developing novel hollow fiber adsorbent materials and building scalable and efficient adsorbent contactors for direct air capture of carbon dioxide. His work has been featured in several peer-reviewed publications in leading journals such as Science Advances, Journal of Membrane Science, ACS Materials Letters, and Carbon.
Iyer holds a Ph.D. in chemical engineering from the University of Maryland, College Park and was a postdoctoral fellow at the Georgia Institute of Technology.
