Alex Hernandez is a research scientist/engineer in the accelerated methodologies group at the Materials Discovery Research Institute. He focuses on surface characterization of porous materials with gas adsorption techniques. He performs various gas adsorption experiments within the adsorption lab and helps with the maintenance and upkeep of analysis equipment. He also helps develop analytical methods within the adsorption room that streamline daily workflow in order to be able to perform high-throughput analysis for the lab’s adsorption equipment.

Hernandez was an undergraduate research assistant at the University of California, Riverside. He assisted in the manual assembly of lithium-ion coin cell batteries and testing the stability of battery components with cycling tests. He joined the Materials Discovery team in 2024.

Hernandez holds an A.S. in general math and science from Imperial Valley Community College and a B.S in chemical engineering with a focus on nanotechnology from University of California, Riverside.
